A Girl Can Do What She Wants to Do

I can stay out late
I can party all night
You can’t tell me what to do
That I’m wrong or right

Yes, I’m a girl
But that’s not your concern
Guys do what they want
And now it’s my turn

“Be more modest.”
“Worry what they think.”
Why should I care
If my reputation will sink?

You’re stuck in the past
With your old-school ideals
I won’t stay at home
As my life slowly congeals

I’m allowed to have fun
To do things my way
I can voice my opinion
I don’t care what you say

So look out world
I’m coming out of my shell
And if you don’t like it
You can go straight to Hell!

  1. Your conclusion of a little girl in this drug infested world is most troubling. Most girls need guidance and good moral leadership. Being very impressionable like wet clay is the best time to lead them in paths of honesty and righteousness. Those who choose to do otherwise will no doubt drag their little girls to hell.

    1. We are going to agree to disagree. It is one thing to show children how to be kind and honest people through words and actions, it is another to tell girls that they must stay in their place and keep their opinions to themselves. The latter is what this poem is about.
