A New Middle Grade Series!

Hello, everyone.
Today I am excited to reveal the cover for my upcoming book Tales of Mentara: Book One: The Portal, or The Portal for short. This is the first in a fantasy adventure series aimed at middle grade children ages eleven to thirteen. In all honesty, even adults will enjoy this magical series. Here is the back-of-the-book summary:

Five children find themselves stuck in a beautiful jungle on a strange planet. But all is not as peaceful as it first appears.

Twelve-year-old Charlotte has been different all her life. It isn’t just that her father left when she was a child, or her mother ignores her. What really makes her an outsider is the fact that she has strange abilities that she can’t explain and struggles to control. Everything changes in the summer of 1993 when she feels drawn to a certain spot outside of town. Unfortunately, she isn’t alone when things go sideways.

When the children realize they are definitely not on Earth anymore, they have to learn not only how to fend for themselves, but how to get along. The problem is, even Charlotte has no idea how to get off the alien planet. And, perhaps, she doesn’t want to.

It doesn’t take long for the five to realize they aren’t alone in this strange land and that life here is more dangerous than they could have imagined.

Portal teaser1

This book, or the entire series in fact, has been a long time coming and I am delighted that it is finally ready to share with the world. The Portal is scheduled to release on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, iTunes, and other online retailers on April 13th, 2018. It will be available for pre-order soon.

Here it is, the lovely cover featuring one of the lead characters, Charlotte. I’m pleased as punch with this design by Bad Doggie Designs. Stay tuned for more information on The Portal and have a great day!

Christmas Stories for Kids

My review of Christmas Stories for Kids by Uncle Amon

Rating: 3 Stars

My children enjoyed the short stories in this amusing book. Some were sweet and some rather funny. The jokes at the end fell short for the most part, but overall, a fun read for the holiday season.

The Good Pirate

My review of The Good Pirate by Anita Kovacevic

Rating: 5 Stars

A wonderful story about a man who wants to be a pirate and find buried treasure for the woman he loves. The questions at the end of each chapter and word games at the end of the book are perfect teaching tools for teachers and parents alike.
A nice, short read for young children.

Butters Comes Home

My review for Butters Comes Home by Claudette Melanson

Rating: 5 Stars

A sweet read for young children. The pictures were lovely, the story adorable, and the main character super cute. My three-year-old has a short attention span but sat with me during the reading of this entire book. She just loved the pictures.

Kassidy and Where’s My Kitty?

This is my daughter Kassidy. She is twelve years old and full of life and energy. She loves to sing and make new friends. In October, Kassidy was diagnosed with NHL, Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She will be undergoing treatments and chemo this year.

This difficult situation is made more stressful by the financial burdens we are undergoing because of her hospital time. We are raising money for Kassidy in several ways:

A GoFundMe page has been established. Here is the web address – https://www.gofundme.com/kassidy-uzzell-fights-cancer

Any jewelry bought from Groovy Goodies on Facebook.

Profits from T-shirts, hoodies, and mugs sold on Teespring.

I have also dedicated a book to Kassidy called Where’s My Kitty? I originally created this story for Kassidy when she was two years old. I wanted to give her a story about her own adventure trying to find her cat, Spunky. She loved how I made a scrapbook-like book with pictures of her and her cat. I read it to her often.

It became quite special to us when Spunky passed away because it was a way to fondly remember her loving, silly cat.

Now that she is older, it was time to publish the book and share the story with the world. I included pictures of her and Spunky from that time, to keep the magic of long ago when she was my baby.

All royalties from this book will go towards helping our families through this difficult time.

Where’s My Kitty? can be found on Amazon US, and Amazon Au.
