Happy New Year, everyone!
I hope 2017 was a pleasant year. I read many books, wrote some new poetry, and made amazing new friends.
This year, I plan to focus more on book series. I hope to finish the next book in the Fluffy Folktales series before the end of the year. The title for the next installment is Beauty and the Beastly Herb Gardener. This one is going to be as much fun to write as Once Upon a Pastry was, and hopefully just as much fun to read!
Kyra and I will be working on the third installment in the Spunky’s Magical Adventures series. Though it is currently untitled, it will involve mermaids and underwater candy creatures. Kyra, the co-author and illustrator, is especially excited to get started on this new project.
Now on to something new. I have begun writing on a new children’s series for middle-grade. A science fiction/fantasy story, this series will focus on a group of children who become stuck on another world. More serious minded than our previous stories, this will not be a picture book, but will certainly bring out the best of your imagination. The first book of the Tales of Mentara series will be coming out before you know it.
That’s it for announcements. I hope everyone has a wonderful 2018, and keep reading indie!
Hello, everyone. I just wanted to pop in and let you know that Kyra and I are having a book signing at our local library.
On Saturday, September 16th, from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Grifton Public Library in Grifton, NC, we will be celebrating the release of book two in the Spunky’s Magical Adventures series by signing copies of both books.
Stop by to purchase your copies of Spunky and the Wizard’s Chair and Spunky and the Dolphin Palace, or bring your own copies to get our signatures and a personal note from the co-author and illustrator, Kyra Uzzell.
Hope to see you there!
Hello, fellow book lovers. I’m excited to announce that it’s that time of year again. The Summer Indie Book Awards are here!

We are super stoked because three of our books have been nominated this year! In Romance is the quirky fantasy with a happily-ever-after everyone can love, Once Upon a Pastry. In Children’s is book two following our favorite feline on his magical journey, Spunky and the Dolphin Palace. In Short Story is the hilarious tale of grandmas that can still kick fang, Hunting Vampires with Grandma.

My review of The Good Pirate by Anita Kovacevic
Rating: 5 Stars
A wonderful story about a man who wants to be a pirate and find buried treasure for the woman he loves. The questions at the end of each chapter and word games at the end of the book are perfect teaching tools for teachers and parents alike.
A nice, short read for young children.
My review of The Rabbit Joke by Paul White
Rating: 4 Stars
A cute book for children and parents to enjoy together. Though there were some editing issues, the story shined through. My children were giggling and interacting right along with it as I read aloud. A fun read!
Are you ready for Halloween? Plaisted Publishing House, Ltd. certainly is! On October 31st, they are publishing an anthology that you won’t soon forget.
Twenty-six indie authors from around the globe come together in this chilling anthology to bring you stories of terror and woe. Ghostly Writes Anthology will be a yearly anthology of scary stories written by indie authors with a taste for fear.
This will be an eBook on all major distribution sites (Perhaps late to Amazon) and it will be FREE! That’s right, folks! This big book of ghostly terrors costs you nothing. So please enjoy these horrifying tales on the night when the veil between the living and the dead is thinnest.
My story in this anthology is called “Spools of Thread”. It is about two teenage girls who decide to visit a supposedly haunted house one October night. Will they make it out alive? Nothing is what it seems in this twisty tale.
Here is the link to Plaisted Publishing House’s blog post about the anthology:
I also created a video about the anthology on my Marie Youtube channel. You can check that out here:
Here are some teasers from contributing authors of the anthology. Enjoy!
Spunky and the Wizard’s Chair was nominated this year for the Summer Indie Book Awards hosted by Metamorph Publishing. This event showcases indie authors of every genre and their fabulous books. During the event, there is voting in each category for your favorite book. Here is the link to the website with the information about the awards.
Our book won an award!
Kyra won an award for being the youngest author to participate in the Children’s category this year. It is so exciting! She won a free book of her choosing from the list of those who donated, and a beautiful ribbon that we can display on the cover of Spunky and the Wizard’s Chair.
Thank you Metamorph Publishing for hosting a fun and entertaining event. I certainly saw some book titles that I want to check out! I also want to thank everyone who voted for our book. You guys are awesome!
I hope that next year we will have a new book or two for this event!
